DATAW ISLAND, S.C. – The Washington and Lee men's golf team shot a 36-hole score of 321-320—641 on Monday to rank sixth of 13 teams after day one of the Taylor Made Adidas Intercollegiate at the Cotton Dike Course in Dataw Island, S.C.
Faulkner University shot a score of 299-304—603 and leads the field by 18 strokes. Hampden-Sydney is second with a 311-310—621 and is followed by Wake Tech C.C. (316-316—632), Ohio Wesleyan (316-316—632), Centenary (322-312—634) and W&L. Hardin-Simmons (318-324—642), Mt. St. Joseph (319-324—643), Hanover (321-328—649) and Shenandoah (332-338—670) round out the Top 10.
Faulkner's Brandon Godwin is the individual leader after the first day, carding an even par score of 73-71—144.
W&L is led by sophomore Patrick Clossin (Ooltewah, Tenn. / McCallie School), who ranks fourth with a score of 74-77—151 (+7). First-year Teddy Corcoran (Rochester, N.Y. / Brighton) is tied for eighth with a 75-79—154, while junior Mark Sowinski (Greensboro, N.C. / Bishop McGuinness) is tied for 32nd with an 85-77—162. Sophomore Joey Manzinger (Baden, Pa. / Sewickley Academy), junior Jake Struebing (Amherst, N.Y. / Amherst Central) and first-year Festus Turlington (Clinton, N.C. / Clinton) round out the Generals in the field. Manzinger is tied for 43rd with an 85-82--167, while Struebing is tied for 59th (87-88—175) and Turlington is tied for 62th (90-87—177).
Action continues on Tuesday with the third and final round from the Cotton Dike Course.
