W&L Men's Golf Sits in First-Place After Day One at the Tom Kinder

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's golf team opened its 2012-13 season by competing in the first day of the Tom Kinder Invitational hosted by Bridgewater College at the Lakeside Golf Club on Sunday afternoon.

The Generals lead the team portion of the event by carding a -3 score of 285.  Milligan sits in second place after shooting a 289, while the host Eagles are third with a 293.

Individually, W&L is paced by first-year Teddy Corcoran (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton), who is tied for second with a three-under par score of 69.  Virginia Intermont's Trevor Banks is the leader after shooting 65 (-7) on the opening day.

Junior Jack Cottrill (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) sits in fifth-place after posting a -2 score of 70, while junior Mark Sowinski (Greensboro, N.C./Bishop McGuinness) is tied for 12th with a 72. 

Sophomore Patrick Clossin (Ooltewah, Tenn./McCallie School) carded a 74 and is tied for 20th, and sophomore Jake Struebing (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst Central) is tied for 52nd-place with a score of 80.

Action continues on Monday with the final round from Lakeside.
