DATAW ISLAND, S.C. – The Washington and Lee men's golf team carded a 54-hole score of 331-322-341—994 to finish fourth out of eight teams at the Taylor Made Adidas Intercollegiate hosted by Ohio Wesleyan at the Cotton Dike Course in Dataw Island, S.C.
Top-ranked Guilford won the event with a two-day score of 309-318-315—942, while Wake Tech Community College finished second with a 331-326-321—978. Hampden-Sydney overtook the Generals for third place with a 325-323-335—983 and Mt. St. Joseph placed fifth with a score of 337-344-320—1001. Shenandoah (342-337-334—1013), Ohio Wesleyan (337-330-349—1016) and Nazareth (359-353-360—1072) rounded out the field.
Individually, Guilford's Noah Rater and Mitch Robinette finished first and second in the event. Rater finished 15 strokes over par with a 77-76-78—231, while Robinette shot 78-78-80—236.
For Washington and Lee, senior Wilson Anthony (Fordyce Ark./Episcopal) carded an 82-78-82—242 to lead the Generals and tie for seventh place. First-year Patrick Clossin (Ooltewah, Tenn./McCallie School) tied for 16th with an 82-80-85—247 and sophomore Jack Cottrill (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) placed 21st with an 82-79-88—249. Sophomores Jake Struebing (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst Central) and Mark Sowinski (Greensboro, N.C./Bishop McGuinness) completed their rounds to tie for 26th and 35th, respectively. Struebing shot 85-85-86—256 and Sowinski carded an 87-86-91—264.
Washington and Lee will return to action on March 25-27 as it travels to Williamsburg to compete in the William & Mary C&F Bank Invitational at the Kingsmill Resort.
