W&L Golf is Tied for Sixth After Day One of ODAC's

CAPE CHARLES, Va. --The Washington and Lee golf team carded an opening round score of 324 to tie for sixth place out of eight teams at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships held at the Bay Creek Resort on Sunday.

Guilford leads the event after shooting a 303 during the opening round, while Hampden-Sydney and Randolph-Macon are tied for second with 307.  Roanoke is fourth (314) and is followed by Bridgewater (319), Lynchburg (324), W&L (324) and Virginia Wesleyan (355).

Individually, Randolph-Macon's Max Wyndorf leads the way after shooting an even par score of 72.  First-year Jack Cottrill (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) was the top General in the first round, shooting a 79 to tie for 15th-place.  Senior Tim Gavrich (Avon, Conn./Westminster) is tied for 21st with an 80, while first-year John Torell (Bronxville, N.Y./Brunswick School) is tied for 24th with an 81.

Junior Wilson Anthony (Fordyce, Ark./Episcopal) is tied for 29th-place (84) and senior Tom Bowden (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) is tied for 32nd (86).

Action continues on Monday with the second of the tournament's three rounds from Bay Creek.
