W&L Golf Ties for Fourth at the Transylvania Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Washington and Lee golf team was in action over the weekend participating in the Transylvania University Invitational held at the University Club of Kentucky.  The Generals shot 314-320—634 to tie for fourth out of 12 teams.

St. Thomas (Minn.) finished as the top team in the tournament, carding a two-day score of 295-305—600.  Centre College finished second (300-304—604) and Transylvania was third (299-308—607).  The home-standing Pioneers' Justin Tereshko was the individual medalist, shooting a 70-75—145.

Leading the way for the Generals were senior Tim Gavrich (Avon, Conn./Westminster) and junior Wilson Anthony (Fordyce, Ark./Episcopal), who tied for 16th-place with identical scores of 155.  Gavrich went 77-78, while Anthony shot 76-79.  Sophomore Will Hatfield (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) tied for 25th overall with an 80-80—160, while senior Tom Bowden (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) and first-year Jake Struebing (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst Central) tied for 44th with a 166.  Bowden shot 81-85 and Struebing shot 83-83.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Oct. 25-26 as it competes in the Guilford/Tom O'Briant Invitational held at the Cardinal Golf and Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
