W&L Claims the 2013 ODAC Overall Sports Champion Cup
For the 11th-consecutive year, Washington and Lee University has claimed the Dan Wooldridge Overall Sports Champion Cup, as announced by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference on Friday. The Generals claimed both the Women’s Commissioner’s Cup and the Men’s Commissioner’s Cup on their way to the overall title.

Franz Earns VaSID Rookie of the Year Honor
The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced its 2012-13 College Division Men’s Basketball All-State Team on Monday, and first-year Andrew Franz (Charlotte, N.C./Ravenscroft) was named the Rookie of the Year.

Numerous W&L Students Earn Winter Term Scholar-Athlete Awards
Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced that 179 students earned Scholar-Athlete awards during the recently completed winter term. The students are all members of W&L athletic teams and achieved a grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.500.

After sinking two free throws, senior forward J.D. Ey (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) stole the inbounds pass and made a quick layup with 14 seconds left in the game to give the Washington and Lee men’s basketball team a 61-60 victory over Shenandoah on Saturday at the Warner Center.

The Washington and Lee men’s basketball team shot 51.9 percent from the field (27-52) to upend Virginia Wesleyan, 69-68, on Saturday at the Warner Center. It was the first victory for the Generals (10-9, 5-5 ODAC) over the Marlins (13-5, 9-1 ODAC) since December 2, 2001.

Down one with eight seconds left in overtime, sophomore guard Javon McDonald (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) came free off a screen for an open look, but his shot hitthe front of the rim and Mary Washington’s Bradley Riester (Richmond, Va./Monacan) grabbed the rebound. After a W&L foul, Riester missed both free throws, but a J.D. Ey (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) last-second heave came up short in a 72-71 home loss for the Washington and Lee men’s basketball team on Thursday in the final game of the W&L Invitational.
