Several Generals Earn ODAC Golf Honors

SALEM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference recently
released its all-conference awards for golf and Washington and Lee
had several players recognized.
Junior Robert Womble (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) was selected to the
First Team All-ODAC squad, while junior Joe Gibson (Atlanta,
Ga./Westminster) was tabbed to the second team and junior Brad
Watts (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) was named to the honorable
mention team. Additionally, Womble and Gibson were tabbed to the
all-tournament team, while Gibson was named to the sportsmanship
team.
Womble garnered his accolades after leading the Generals all season
long with a 76.1 stroke average over 19 rounds. He also finished
tied for fourth overall (82-77-78--237) at the 2009 ODAC
Championship event.
Gibson averaged 78.1 strokes over 15 rounds and tied for seventh
overall at the ODAC Championship with a three-day score of
81-81-76--238.
Watts tied for fourth overall at the ODAC Championship
(82-75-80--237) and was tied for second on the team with a 77.6
scoring average over 13 rounds played.
Guilford's Peter Latimer was selected the ODAC Player of the Year,
while Quaker Head Coach Jack Jensen collected ODAC Coach of the
Year laurels. GC's Brian Creghan was named the ODAC/Farm Bureau
Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Hampden-Sydney's Ronnie Fultz was
tabbed the ODAC Rookie of the Year. Lynchburg's Ryan White was
picked the ODAC Sportsman of the Year.
Washington and Lee claimed its second-straight ODAC title back on
April 20 and returns to action in the NCAA Division III
Championship on May 13-16 at the PGA Village in Port St. Lucie,
Fla.
