GRANVILLE, Ohio — Denison held the Washington and Lee field hockey team without a shot on Sunday, as the Big Red earned a 2-0 victory at Piper Stadium.
Denison (2-2) scored the only goal of the first half in the game's seventh minute. Off a penalty corner, The Big Red inserted the ball to the top of the circle. Sophomore defender Ali Gakenheimer was there and redirected it into the cage to give Denison a 1-0 advantage.
Following intermission, the Big Red scored its second and final goal with 16:48 left in the contest. Once again Gakenheimer came away with the tally. First-year defender Abby Scully dribbled into space, and passed it to the side of the cage where Gakenheimer stuffed it in the goal.
