CHANDLER, Ariz. — The National Field Hockey Coaches Associate announced its 2016 ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad on Thursday and 12 players from the Washington and Lee team earned the recognition.
Among the 12 Generals receiving the honor, seniors Maggie Waxter (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park Country School) and Kendall Peterson (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) made the team for the fourth time. Juniors Grace Bowen (Hampton, Va./Hampton Roads Academy) and Maggie Sands (Glen Arm, Md. /Notre Dame Prep) garnered the laurels for a third time.
Senior Camilla Davis (Richmond, Va./Maggie Walker Governor's School), junior Lilly MacDonald (Bluemont, Va./Foxcroft School), and sophomores Haley Tucker (Manakin-Sabot, Va./St. Catherine's School) and Allie DiPietro (Owings Mills, Md./Garrison Forest School) earned the recognition for the second time. Sophomore Audrey Brady (Far Hills, N.J./Brooks School), and first-years Mira Bharatiya (Trenton, N.J./Robbinsville), Lexi Prochniak (Oreland, Pa./Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) and Jessie Serody (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) received the accolades for the first time.
To be named to the National Academic Squad, a player must have earned at least a cumulative 3.30 GPA through the fall term. A total of 1,604 student-athletes made the list, representing 148 schools. The 12 Blue and White athletes honored are the most since the 2014 season.
The Generals finished the 2016 season 13-7 overall and 6-2 in the ODAC. The Blue and White advanced to the ODAC Championship game for the second consecutive year, but lost to Shenandoah in the title game, 2-0. The 13 victories marked the most for the program since the 2006 season.
