Hampsch Earns Second Team All-State Laurels
LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced its 2013 College Division All-State Field Hockey Team on Thursday and Washington and Lee senior defender Riley Hampsch (Hopedale, Mass. / Hopedale) was among those honored.
Hampsch was a second team selection for the second straight year after garnering First Team All-ODAC and Second Team All-South laurels during the 2013 season. She started all 20 contests and finished second on the team with five defensive saves. She also scored a goal in a 5-0 victory over Roanoke.
For her career, Hampsch played in 69 contests, starting 68 of them. She scored two goals and totaled 12 defensive saves in earning all-conference honors all four seasons.
Christopher Newport swept the VaSID major awards. Belle Tunstall earned the Player of the Year Award, Bailey Lien was tabbed the Rookie of the Year and Carrie Moura was honored as the Coach of the Year.
Washington and Lee completed the 2013 season with a 5-15 overall record and a 3-5 mark in conference play. The campaign ended with a 5-2 loss to Randolph-Macon in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament.
