W&L Field Hockey Loses at Bridgewater, 2-0
BRIDGEWATER, Va. — In its final regular-season and Old Dominion Athletic Conference game of the year, the Washington and Lee field hockey team lost at Bridgewater, 2-0, on Wednesday.
Despite the loss, W&L will still compete in the ODAC tournament, which starts this Saturday, October 27. The Generals are the tournament's fourth seed and will host fifth-seeded Shenandoah at the W&L Turf Field with the time to be determined.
The Eagles (10-7, 6-2 ODAC) scored one goal in each half to secure the victory over the Generals (6-11, 4-4 ODAC).
Bridgewater scored the first goal of the game, 7:20 into the opening half. First-year forward Taylor Prillaman scored off an assist from junior midfielder Colleen Dickson. BC pushed the lead to 2-0 with 28:40 left in the second half on Prillaman's second goal of the game, and her 13th score of the season. Senior midfielder Kelly Ryan tallied an assist on the goal.
W&L was outshot by BC, 21-6, in the contest. The Eagles also had nine penalty corners compared to three for Washington and Lee. First-year forward Charlotte MacDonald (Bluemont, Va./Foxcroft) and junior midfielder Alex Hensleigh (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox) led the Generals with two shots each.
Senior goalkeeper Kirsten Kyne (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) played the full 70 minutes for W&L and made 11 saves. Junior goalkeeper Jessica Balsano played the entire game for Bridgewater and made three saves.
