WESTMINSTER, Md. — With five players scoring goals for McDaniel, the Green Terror earned a 7-1 home victory over the Washington and Lee field hockey team on Thursday. First-year forwards Jayde Kauffman and Lara Haab each recorded two in leading the team.
In the loss, senior goalkeeper Kirsten Kyne (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) set the W&L single-season saves record. She entered the game tied with Caroline Habliston for first with 98. Habliston made 98 in 2008. Kyne recorded 12 saves against the Green Terror to push her season total to 110 for the new record.
McDaniel (7-5) netted two goals in the first 10 minutes to put the Generals (4-9) in an early hole. The Green Terror stretched the lead to four before intermission with two scores in the last 16 minutes of the half.
Washington and Lee tallied a goal in the second, but McDaniel added three to push the final tally to 7-1. Senior midfielder Chelsea Stevenson (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) scored the Generals' lone goal. It marked her third of the year.
Vicci Alexander played the full 70 minutes without a save for the Green Terror to improve to 3-0. Kyne fell to 2-5, after playing the entire contest. Her 12 saves brought her career total to 243. She is only five saves behind Courtney Harrion's 248 for the W&L career record. With six more saves, Kyne would hold the Washington and Lee single-game, single-season and career saves records.
The Generals return to action when they host Sweet Briar on Wednesday, October 17, at 6:00 pm.
