Sophomore running back Jimmy Dugan rushed for 143 yards on six carries to help lead the W&L football team to a victory over Shenandoah on Saturday, and earnhim Generalssports.com Athlete of the Week honors.

Washington and Lee first-year safety Michael Shields (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Country Day) has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Defensive Football Player of the Week for the week ending November 16.

Washington and Lee erupted for 26 points in the fourth quarter to take a 40-23 win over Shenandoah in ODAC football action on Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field.

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released its 2014 Capital One Division III Academic All-District Football squad on Thursday afternoon and Washington and Lee had four players selected to the 26-member District 5 team.

Washington and Lee and Catholic will be meeting for the 19th time, with the Generals holding a 15-3 advantage in the all-time series that began during the 1981 season. W&L has won each of the last five contests, including a 14-10 win last season in Lexington. The Cardinals’ last win was a 48-29 win in the Nation’s Capital during the 2008 season.

Washington and Lee and Emory & Henry will be meeting for the 44th time, with the Wasps holding a 28-15 advantage in the all-time series that began during the 1921 season. W&L has won each of the last four contests and nine out of the last 12 meetings. Prior to beginning that streak in 2002, W&L had lost 19 in a row to the Wasps starting in 1983.

The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) has announced that sophomore football player John Carrick (Charlotte, N.C. / Providence Day) and first-year women’s golfer Caroline Holloway (Gainesville, Fla. / Oak Hall) have both been recognized as the Player of the Week in their respective sports for the week ending October 19.

Washington and Lee and Bridgewater will be meeting for the 45th time, with the Generals holding a 26-18 advantage in the all-time series that began during the 1964 season. W&L has won three of the last four between the two teams, including a 42-13 win last season at Wilson Field. W&L has struggled against the Eagles at Jopson Field, having won just once (2010) in the last seven encounters played at Bridgewater.

Washington and Lee and Randolph-Macon will be meeting for the 63rd time, with the Yellow Jackets leading the all-time series 30-29-3 since it began in 1903. The Generals have won three of the last four games against R-MC, but fell to the Yellow Jackets last season by a score of 27-21 in Ashland. W&L has won seven straight against Macon in Lexington, with the last loss coming during the 1998 season.

Washington and Lee and Hampden-Sydney will be meeting for the 73rd time, with the Tigers holding a 37-33-2 advantage in the all-time series that began during the 1899 season. The teams have split the last four meetings, with each team winning at home. The Tigers claimed a 35-22 win last season at Hampden-Sydney.

W&L and Centre will be meeting for the 63rd time, with the Colonels holding a 37-23-2 advantage in the all-time series that began during the 1897 season. The two teams met every season from 1955-2006, but the series experienced a five-year hiatus until the teams met again starting in 2011. Centre has won six of the last nine meetings, including a 37-28 win last season in Danville, Ky. The Generals are 13-12-2 all-time at home against the Colonels, winning the last meeting between the two in Lexington by a score of 34-16

W&L and Averett will be meeting for the fifth time, with the series knotted at two games apiece. The Cougars have won both meetings played on campus, while the Generals claimed wins in both of the neutral contests played at Salem Stadium. Averett won the last meeting 20-10 back in 2010 and also won the last game between the two on its home campus by a score of 14-10 in 2009.
