Heinsohn and Pelton to be Honored by the Richmond TD Club
RICHMOND, Va. – The Touchdown Club of Richmond has announced its college award winners for the 2012 season and they will be honored at the Dudley Award Banquet held on Wednesday, December 5.
Washington and Lee senior running back/placekicker Luke Heinsohn (Charlottesville, Va./Covenant) will receive the college division offensive back award, while senior safety Jake Pelton (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) will be presented the defensive back award.
Heinsohn, also named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-ODAC, leads all NCAA Divisions with an ODAC-record 188 total points during the 2012 season. He rushed 183 times for 1,253 yards and a school-record 22 touchdowns, hit 48-of-52 PAT attempts and went 2-for-2 on field goal attempts. A First Team All-ODAC honoree as a sophomore and second team pick as a junior, Heinsohn finished his career as the Generals' all-time leading rusher (3,517) and scorer (344).
A three-time First Team All-ODAC selection and 2011 Honorable Mention All-American, Pelton led the Generals with a career-best 102 tackles, four interceptions and one forced fumble. He completed his career with 282 tackles and 12 interceptions, which are tied for the fifth-best total in school history.
The college division consists of all NCAA Division II, III, NAIA and USCAA football programs in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Other college division winners included Randolph-Macon’s Zach Midulla (End/WR), Hampden-Sydney’s Will Ferrell (OL) and Kenny Fryman (LB), Bridgewater’s Joel Francis (DL) and Shenandoah’s Cory Gay (Special Teams).
The Dudley Award banquet is open to the public and will be held on December 5 at the Hilton Richmond Hotel at 7:30 pm. A pre-banquet social will begin at 6:30 pm. Tickets cost $40 and may be purchased by contacting Rudy Ward at 804-551-0980 or email@example.com.
The Dudley Award for the top FBS/FCS player in the state and the Lanier Award for the top college division player in the state will also be presented at the banquet. W&L’s Charlie Westfal ’12 won the 2011 Lanier Award.
The Touchdown Club of Richmond is a sports-social organization that serves to promote the best interests of the American game of football and sports in general, under the guidance of elected officers with the predominate purpose being to recognize worthy athletes for their accomplishments and to encourage them to continue their education and athletic careers.
