FOREST, Va. – Washington and Lee senior running back Luke Heinsohn (Charlottesville, Va./Covenant) has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive Football Player of the Week for the week ending September 30.
Heinsohn helped lead the Generals to a 42-21 win over Guilford on Saturday by rushing for 146 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries. He also booted six PATs to finish with 24 total points and became W&L's career scoring leader with 228 points.
Heinsohn also set the career record for rushing touchdowns (35) and moved to within one touchdown of the W&L record for overall touchdowns (36). He is currently tied for the top spot in Division III in scoring this season, averaging 18.0 points per game.
For the year, Heinsohn has rushed for 486 yards and nine touchdowns on just 78 carries (6.2 avg). He is also 18-of-19 on PAT attempts and he ranks 25th nationally in rushing with an average of 121.5 yards per game. Heinsohn's 2,750 career rushing yards rank fourth all-time and are just 391 yards away from breaking the school record.
Washington and Lee (3-1, 1-0 ODAC) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Emory & Henry for a 1:30 pm contest.
