W&L's Pelton Named to D3football.com Team of the Week
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Washington and Lee senior safety Jake Pelton (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) has been named to the D3football.com/Scoutware Team of the Week for the week ending September 1.
Pelton was among 21 Division III football players honored for their season-opening performances over the weekend, including Eureka senior quarterback Sam Durley, who passed for an NCAA single-game record 736 yards on Saturday.
Pelton had an impressive day himself, recording a team-best nine tackles and intercepting three passes in the Generals' 35-28 loss to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Two of his interceptions occurred inside the W&L 5-yardline and helped preserve the Generals' 21-14 halftime lead.
His three interceptions were the most by a W&L player since Jack Norberg picked off three passes in a game in 1976 and gave Pelton 11 career interceptions, seventh-best all time at W&L.
Washington and Lee resumes play on Saturday as it travels to Sewanee for a 1:00 pm CDT contest.
