Dolan Headlines W&L Baseball's All-ODAC Honorees
FOREST, Va. — The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its baseball all-conference awards on Friday, and Washington and Lee had three players honored, highlighted by senior center fielder Keegan Dolan (Bethesda, Md./Landon) making the first team.
Along with Dolan, junior relief pitcher Cory Smith (Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley) and junior shortstop Taylor Rowe (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) each received Second Team All-ODAC honors. It marked the first all-conference accolades for all three players.
Dolan leads the ODAC with 11 home runs, which set the W&L single-season record. The previous mark was nine done three times previously. He is hitting .360 (49-of-136) with 33 RBI, 31 runs, 10 steals, seven doubles and one triple.
Dolan has the fourth-highest slugging percentage (.669) in the league and has a .397 on-base percentage. He is also currently on a 16-game hitting streak, which is tied for the longest this season for W&L.
Smith has appeared in 15 games this season with one start. He has a 1-1 overall record, a 1.89 ERA (fifth in the ODAC), five saves (second in the ODAC) and 24 strikeouts in 38.0 innings. His five saves are tied for the second-most in a single-season in W&L history. Smith also has six in his career, which puts him third on the team's all-time list.
Rowe leads the Generals with a .361 batting average (48-of-133). He has 11 doubles, 24 runs, 13 RBI, 11 walks and one homer, while starting every game at shortstop. Earlier this season, he registered a 16-game hitting streak.
Shenandoah claimed three of the major ODAC awards. Junior third baseman Michael Paul was named the Player of the Year, sophomore Darrell Thompson received the Pitcher of the Year honor and Kevin Anderson was selected as the Coach of the Year. Sophomore designated hitter Nicholas Maiolo of Randolph-Macon garnered the Rookie of the Year, while senior first baseman John Macon Smith of Guilford was voted the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete.
The Generals (18-12) take on top-seeded Shenandoah at 2:30 pm in the ODAC Tournament at City Stadium on Friday. W&L already has one loss in the double elimination championship.
