    Washington and Lee University held its annual Athletic Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, May 17 at Lee Chapel. Headlining the award winners were senior field hockey/lacrosse player Emmy Mathews (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) and senior football player Greg Kurkis (Roswell, Ga./Westminster), who were selected as the “Pres” Brown Outstanding Senior Female and Male Athletes of the Year as voted on by members of the department.

    Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced that 173 students earned Scholar-Athlete awards during the recently completed winter term. The students are all members of W&L athletic teams and achieved a grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.500.

    FOREST, Va. – Senior righthander Gregg Laswell (Houston, Texas/Memorial) was named the ODAC Pitcher of the Year as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference handed out its postseason awards on Wednesday afternoon. Five Washington and Lee players were honored in all.

    The Washington and Lee baseball team concluded the ODAC portion of its 2011 schedule with a doubleheader split with Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon at Cap’n Dick Smith Field. VWC won the opener, 7-4, and the Generals blanked the Marlins, 2-0, in the nightcap.
