W&L's Tabb and Caire Named ITA All-Americans
LEXINGTON, Va -- Washington and Lee senior Katie Tabb
(Minneapolis, Minn./Edina) and junior Lauren Caire (Nashville,
Tenn./Harpeth Hall) were recently honored as Division III Women's
Tennis All-Americans by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association
(ITA).
Tabb, who was also named the ITA Atlantic South Region Senior
Player of the Year, was honored in both singles and doubles for the
third time in her career. The ninth-ranked singles player in the
nation, she finished the year with a 17-7 singles mark and advanced
to the second round of the NCAA Individual Championships. Tabb, a
two-time ODAC Player of the Year honoree and the 2009 ODAC/Farm
Bureau Scholar-Athlete of the Year, finished her career with 89
singles wins, good for sixth all-time at W&L.
Tabb also teamed with Caire to earn All-America laurels in doubles
for the second-straight year. Tabb and Caire completed the 2009
season with a 17-8 overall record, made a second-consecutive
appearance in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Individual
Championships and ended the year as the eighth-ranked pair in the
country.
The duo posted 47 doubles wins over three years and rank as the
fifth-winningest tandem in school history. Additionally, Tabb is
tied with Lindsey Hagerman '05 for the most doubles wins in W&L
history with 108. For Caire, this marks her third All-America
citation (two doubles, one singles).
Washington and Lee finished the season with a 20-5 overall mark and
advanced to the third round of the NCAA Championships.
