McKelvey Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior centerfielder
Terrence McKelvey (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) has been selected
to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic
All-District III Baseball squad as a first team selection, which
was announced on Thursday.
McKelvey, a European history major, has started 29 games this
spring and leads W&L with a .415 batting average and 33 runs
scored. The 2009 ODAC Player of the Year, as well as the ODAC
Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, McKelvey sits atop
W&L’s career batting average list (.398) and ranks among
the Top 5 in four other career categories at Washington and Lee.
This season, he helped lead the Generals to their first NCAA
appearance in school history.
With his first-team selection, McKelvey will now be put on the
national ballot where he has a chance to earn Academic All-America
honors. Should McKelvey be selected, he would be W&L’s
first baseball player to be recognized as an Academic All-American
since Peter Dean ’04 in 2004.
The criteria for the CoSIDA Academic All-District program states
that a player must be of sophomore academic standing, be a starter
or important reserve and claim a GPA of at least a 3.30 on a 4.0
scale. Washington and Lee is a member of District III, which
includes players from small colleges in Virginia, North Carolina,
South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
