W&L Swimmers to Compete at NCAA Meet
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Five men’s swimmers and one women’s swimmer from Washington and Lee will be competing in the NCAA Division III National Championships, which the Association announced recently.
Senior Paul Crook (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell) highlighted the men's entrants after qualifying as the No. 13 seed in the 200 free with a time of 1:40.36. Crook will also swim the 500 free and he will take part on W&L's 200, 400 and 800 free relays, as well as the 200 and 400 medley relay squads.
First-year Christopher Washnock (Greer, S.C./Greenville)
qualified in the 200 back with a time of 1:51.84 and will enter the
meet as the No. 22 seed. Washnock will also swim in the 100 back,
the 400 individual medley and he will participate on both the 200
and 400 medley relay teams.
Junior Brandon Barnds (Mission Hills, Kan./Shawnee) has been
invited to swim the 50 and 100 free events and will also take part
on all five relay teams. Junior Nick Talluri (Mount Airy,
N.C./Mount Airy) is slated to swim the 50 free as well, as the
three free relays, while first-year Brian Stirling (Skillman,
N.J./Montgomery) will take part on all five relays and the 100
butterfly. Senior Bret Tatman (Marietta, Ga./George Walton) is the
Generals’ relay alternate.
On the women’s side, senior Lindsey Strachan (Midlothian,
Va./Governor’s School) will participate in three individual
events.
Strachan is the No. 5 seed in the 200 back after posting a time of
2:02.62. She will also swim in the 100 back and the 50 free.
The NCAA Division III Championships are being held at the University of Minnesota and will run from March 18-21.
