LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced the appointment of Stephanie Shank as assistant director of the W&L Fitness Center.
"I'm pleased to offer this position to Stephanie and to have her become a member of our department," said Hathorn. "Her background in exercise science and her enthusiasm towards serving our campus and its fitness needs will be a great addition to our fitness center."
Shank will assist Fitness Center Director Chris Schall with maintenance of the facility and the development of wellness programs for the University community.
"I'm honored to work with members of the Washington and Lee community, Shank stated. "I look forward to making a great fitness center even better."
Shank is a graduate of Cedarville University, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in exercise science with minors in health promotion and Bible. While there, she served as the vice-president of the Health and Fitness Association and was a recipient of the Cedarville Leadership Scholarship and the Alumni Exercise Science Scholarship.
"Stephanie will be a benefit to the W&L community as she is enthusiastic in helping people attain their fitness/wellness goals," said Schall. "Having her on board will provide new opportunities for our students, faculty and staff as she designs and implements fitness and wellness programs."
A native of Roanoke, Va., Shank has served as a fitness instructor at the Botetourt Athletic Club since 2004 and was an aerobics instructor and assistant at Salem Wellness and Fitness from 2005-06. She was also an intern in the wellness center with the Pepsi Bottling Group in Somers, N.Y.
Shank is certified in CPR and AED by the American Heart Association, has certification in first aid and is certified in AFAA Group Exercise and Kickboxing.
