Former W&L Lacrosse Coach Dana Swan Passes Away

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Former Washington and Lee Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Dana Swan, 76, passed away from lymphoma at his home on June 10. 

Swan arrived at W&L in 1961 as assistant football under Lee McLaughlin and as an assistant lacrosse coach under Bob McHenry.  He was elevated to head lacrosse coach in 1965, coaching the Generals for three seasons before taking the head football coaching position at Haverford College.  Following the elimination of football at the school, he formed the first varsity lacrosse program in 1972.

In addition to his wife, Joan Nelson and daughter Betsy, Mr. Swan is survived by daughters Susan Swan Smith and Martha Swan Melichar; a stepson, Marc Aumuler; and nine grandchildren.
