Both W&L Tennis Teams Picked First in ODAC Coaches' Polls

SALEM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) released its 2008 Preseason Coaches Poll for men's and women's tennis and both teams were picked to win the conference.

On the women's side, the defending National Champion Generals took all 11 first-place votes and registered 121 total points. Following W&L, Virginia Wesleyan came in second (103), Hollins was tabbed third (102) and Bridgewater (89), Roanoke (72), Guilford (61), Emory & Henry (52), Sweet Briar (45), Randolph-Macon (39), Lynchburg (29) and Randolph (13) rounded out the poll.

For the men, W&L also garnered all of the available first-place tallies for 100 total points. Hampden-Sydney (85), Roanoke (78), Bridgewater (65), Guilford (57), Virginia Wesleyan (51), Emory & Henry (48), Lynchburg (29), Randolph-Macon (27) and Randolph (10) completed the men's coaches poll.

The top-ranked women opened the spring season with a trio of ODAC wins, defeating Bridgewater, E&H, and VWC all by a score of 9-0. The women (4-0, 3-0 ODAC) return to action on Monday when they take on Roanoke at 4:00 pm in Salem, Va.

The men's team also picked up two ODAC victories over the weekend, downing VWC and E&H, 9-0. The men (2-3, 2-0 ODAC) take on Lynchburg on Wed., Mar. 12 at 4:00 pm in Lexington, Va.
