MANHEIM, Pa. -- The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) recently announced its 2008 Scholar All-America Teams and the Washington and Lee wrestling team was one of 25 Division III squads honored. Additionally, seniors Kirk Adamson (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's), Anthony Boniello (Katonah, N.Y./Somers), Peter Lawrence (Greenwich, Conn./Loomis-Chaffee) and David Shubick (Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook) were honored as NWCA Scholar All-Americans.
The Generals, who received the team award honor for the fourth-straight year, were ranked 11th out of the 25 Division III teams with a 3.371 team grade-point-average (GPA).
Individually, to be eligible for Scholar All-America status, an athlete must have a GPA of 3.2 or higher on a scale of 4.0, for the previous full academic year.
A two-time honoree as a business major, Adamson finished the season with a 17-11 record at 184 pounds and led W&L in pins (5). He wrapped up his career with a 51-43 overall record, while notching 18 pins.
A physics and engineering major and a two-time member of the Scholar All-America team, Boniello completed the season with a 19-7 overall record and was the runner-up at 165 pounds at the Centennial Conference Championships. He finished his career with a 62-41 overall record.
Lawrence, who wrestles at 149 pounds and is a mathematics and economics major, led W&L in wins (20-8) and set a single season takedown record (89) and a career takedown record (232). He registered a 64-43 overall record on his career.
A two-time honoree and accounting major, Shubick tallied an 18-9 overall record and finished third at the Centennial Conference Championships at 133 pounds. Over his four years, Shubick amassed a 68-44 overall record.
W&L concluded the 2007-08 season with a 7-5 overall record and a 2-5 mark in the Centennial Conference.
