Two Generals Named to Academic All-District Team

DELAWARE, Ohio -- Senior forward Martha Caulkins (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) and junior forward Anne Van Devender (Jackson, Miss./ Choate Rosemary Hall) were selected to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-District III Women's Soccer First Team, which was announced on Thursday.

Caulkins, an economics and mathematics double major, has played in all 20 contests for the Generals in 2007. A first team all-District honoree in 2006, she ranks third on the team in points this season with 15 (6g, 3a).

A computer science major, Van Devender has started 19 games for W&L and leads the Generals in scoring, totaling 15 goals and 10 assists this season. A second team all-district selection in 2006, Van Devender continues to rise in the W&L record books as her 116 career points (47g, 22a) already rank her third all-time.

With their first-team selections, Caulkins and Van Devender will now go on to the national ballot where they could earn Academic All-America honors.

The criteria for the CoSIDA Academic All-District program states that a player must be of sophomore academic standing, be a starter or important reserve, and claim a GPA of at least a 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Washington and Lee is a member of District III, which includes players from small colleges in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
