SALEM, Va. -- Washington and Lee University garnered three of the ODAC's weekly honors for the sports of women's soccer, women's swimming and volleyball for the week ending October 28.
Junior forward Anne Van Devender (Jackson, Miss./Choate Rosemary Hall) was named ODAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week, while junior Julianne Miata (Valhalla, N.Y./Westlake) received the ODAC Women's Swimmer of the Week. Sophomore outside hitter Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) earned the weekly ODAC award for volleyball.
Van Devender earned player of the week honors for the third time this season following the final week of the regular season. She helped W&L clinch the third seed in the ODAC Tournament by notching one goal and two assists in a 3-1 win over Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday. On the season, she leads the team with 40 points on 15 goals and 10 assists.
Miata tallied two first-place finishes to help the Generals win their home-opener on Saturday as they topped Transylvania, 108-82. She touched first in the 50 free (25:45) and the 200 fly (2:19.68). Also in a season-opening loss to Mary Washington (93-169) on Oct. 20, Miata took first in the 100 fly (1:03.11).
Phillips totaled 68 kills, 20 digs and eight blocks as the team posted a 4-0 record last week and set a new program record for 22-consecutive victories. In a 3-1 win over Lynchburg, Phillips amassed a season-high 25 kills and nine digs. She added 15 kills and five digs in a 3-0 win over Rhodes, 12 kills in a 3-0 victory over Maryville, and 16 kills in a 3-0 triumph over University of Cumberlands.
