W&L Women's Swimming Picked First in ODAC Preseason Poll

SALEM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) released its 2007 preseason women's swimming coaches poll on Friday afternoon and Washington and Lee was picked to win the conference.

The Generals received six first-place nods and 62 points to narrowly edge out defending ODAC Champion Randolph-Macon in the poll. The Yellow Jackets picked up the two remaining first-place picks and 58 overall points in the annual coaches survey. Randolph College collected 43 votes to round out the Top 3 preseason seeds.

Washington and Lee returns all seven of its all-conference swimmers from last year’s ODAC Championship runner-up team, including senior Amy Roberson (Nacogdoches, Texas/Nacogdoches), juniors Susan Mahoney (Richmond, Va./St. Catherines), Julianne Miata (Valhalla, N.Y./Westlake), Jessica Shaw (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) and Lindsey Strachan (Midlothian, Va./Maggie L. Walker Governor's School), and sophomores Sarah Simpson (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) and Jenna Worsham (Cumming, Ga./Wesleyan School).

The Generals opened the season with a 169-93 loss to Mary Washington on Oct. 20, but look to rebound in their home-opener against Transylvania on Saturday at noon.
