LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced the hiring of Shana Levine as the Associate Director of Athletics. Levine will begin her duties effective Feb. 18.
"I am excited to offer this position to Shana," stated Hathorn. "She has won out in a very tough competition. She understands the Division III philosophy from her days as a student at W&L and has a profound commitment to the student-athlete model. Through her work at the NCAA, Shana has proven ability in understanding the daily workings of a Division III athletic department, which can only benefit W&L's rich tradition of successfully combining academics and athletics into the life of our student-athletes. Shana will be a dynamic addition to the department and to the University community. I look forward to working with her in this new role."
Levine graduated from W&L in 2001 with a bachelor of arts in biology. She was a four-year letter winner and a team captain for the soccer team. As a member of the Generals' defense, Levine racked up 15 goals and seven assists, en route to garnering All-Region, All-State and All-Conference honors over her career.

Following graduation, Levine went on to pursue her law degree from the University of Pittsburgh and was admitted into the Indiana Bar in 2005. While in law school, she served as an assistant women's soccer coach at Carnegie Mellon University from 2001-2004 and served as a compliance and student life intern at the University of Pittsburgh Department ofAthletics from 2003-2004.
After law school, Levine began a three-year career at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), where she started as an enforcement services intern in 2004. She was promoted to Coordinator of Membership Services and then was named the Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Reinstatement in October 2005. She currently acts as an Associate Director of Membership Services/Division III Governance Liaison.
Levine will be responsible for coordinating compliance regulations within NCAA, ODAC, and institutional guidelines, oversight and management of NCAA compliance and eligibility, assisting in event and game management for all university special events and athletic home contests, coordinating athletic facility scheduling, serving as the liaison with campus housing and dining facilities, and organizing and preparing grant requests and awards for the NCAA, ODAC, and other organizations.
