SALEM, Va. -- Washington and Lee University earned the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Athlete of the Week award for women's swimming and women's indoor track & field for the week ending January 20.
Junior Susan Mahoney (Richmond, Va./St. Catherines) was named ODAC swimmer of the week, while junior Becca Taylor (Hamilton, Ohio/Edgewood) earned ODAC track & field athlete of the week.
Mahoney garnered the award after she finished first in the 200 IM (2:17.92) and the 200 breast (2:34.24) as the Generals defeated ODAC defending champion, Randolph-Macon, 141-60 on Saturday. Mahoney also swam on the winning 400 medley relay (4:23.90).
Taylor competed in the Marietta Invitational over the weekend and notched two first-place finishes. Taylor finished first in the mile with an ODAC-best time of 5:24.90 and the 1,000 meters (3:19.38).
The Washington and Lee women's swim team currently is 8-5 overall and 3-0 in the ODAC, while the women's track & field team finished third out of seven teams over the weekend at the Marietta Invitational.
The W&L swim team returns to the pool Sat., Jan. 26 as it hosts Johns Hopkins at 10:00 am. Track & field travels to Liberty on Friday for a 4:00 pm meet.
