W&L WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PICKED FIFTH IN ODAC PRESEASON POLL

SALEM, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women’s basketball team was selected to finish fifth out of 11 teams in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll which was released on Thursday afternoon at the conference’s media day hosted by the Salem Rotary Club.

Bridgewater sits atop the poll with eight of the 11 first-place votes after finishing the 2005-06 campaign with a 24-7 mark and ended its seaon with a loss in the NCAA tournament Sweet 16. Virginia Wesleyan comes in at second, followed by defending-ODAC Champion Randolph-Macon, Roanoke, W&L, Emory and Henry, Eastern Mennonite, Guilford, Lynchburg, Randolph-Macon Woman's and Hollins.

The Generals finished the 2005-06 season with an 11-15 mark (8-12 ODAC) and return four starters, including Second Team All-ODAC and All-State selection, senior center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./Orme School) and junior guard/forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy).

Last season, Hunsinger led the team in scoring (15.2 ppg), led the ODAC and ranked 12th nationally in blocks (2.8 bpg) and ranked 47th nationally in rebounds (10.0 rpg). She also racked up 31 assists, 25 steals and shot 43.9 percent (161-367) from the field. Krouchick was second on the 2005-06 squad in points (14.8) and also averaged 5.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.1 steals per outings.

W&L also returns sophomore forward Kara Nadeau (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton), who averaged 6.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in last season, and junior guard Emily Wolff (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton), who tallied averages of 7.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.

The Generals open the 2006-07 season on Nov. 18-19 when they compete in the Swarthmore Tournament. W&L opens with The City College of New York on Nov. 18 at 6:30 pm.
