W&L PLACES 10 PLAYERS ON ALL-ODAC FOOTBALL TEAM
SALEM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)
announced its all-conference football team on Tuesday and
Washington and Lee had several players honored.
Senior linebacker Brian Gallagher (Potomac, Md./Good Counsel),
senior defensive lineman Liam Murray (Oneonta, N.Y./Oneonta),
junior offensive lineman Hunter Whitfield (Tuscaloosa,
Ala./Central) and sophomore cornerback Mark Snoddy (Atlanta,
Ga./Westminster) were all named to the first team. Sophomore wide
receiver Jack Martin (Princeton, N.J./Hun School), junior wide
receiver Colton Ward (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day),
senior offensive lineman Trey Allen (Milltown, N.J./Franklin
County), and senior defensive lineman Zach Wall (Nashville,
Tenn./Montgomery Bell) earned second team honors, while junior
offensive lineman Chas Collins (Spotsylvania, Va./Woodberry Forest)
and sophomore cornerback Kyle Luby (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park)
were tabbed to the honorable mention team.
Gallagher earned first team honors for his role in a W&L
defense which forced an ODAC-best 33 turnovers. He totaled 47
tackles, one sack, one interception, forced two fumbles and
recovered one fumble. Gallagher garnered Honorable Mention All-ODAC
honors last season.
Murray earned first team accolades for the second time after
garnering First Team All-ODAC and First Team All-State honors last
season. He was part of a defense which led the league in total
defense (334.7 ypg) and scoring defense (19.1 ppg). Murray missed
the final two game of the season with a knee injury, but still
recorded 55 tackles, including 7.5 tackles for a loss and three
sacks. Murray was also named the ODAC Scholar Athlete of the
Year.
Snoddy garnered first team honors for the first time in his
career. He was a key member of a Generals' defense that ranked
first in the ODAC in pass efficiency defense (108.6), while leading
the team with five interceptions and tying for the team lead with
five pass breakups. Snoddy also totaled 31 tackles.
Whitfield, Allen, a Second Team All-ODAC selection last year, and
Collins were part of an offensive line which allowed an ODAC-low 10
sacks in a school-record 358 pass attempts. W&L averaged 381.5
yards per game, the second-highest total in school history and
scored 29.9 points per game, which was also the second-highest in
school history.
Martin garnered second team accolades after a record-breaking
season. He led W&L in receiving with 70 catches for a
school-record 1,353 yards and a school-record 15 touchdown
receptions. Martin also recorded four of W&L's top five
all-time receiving yards performances this season, including
catching 12 balls for a career-high 219 yards in a win over
Hampden-Sydney. He scored at least one touchdown in eight of 10
games.
Ward was named to the second team after receiving First Team
All-ODAC and First Team All-State honors as a sophomore. He totaled
1,261 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns. He was second on the
team in receiving with 65 catches for 554 yards and six touchdowns,
while rushing 68 times for 307 yards and a score. Ward also
averaged 36.4 yards per return on 11 kickoffs with a touchdown. His
three career kickoff returns for touchdowns are a W&L
record.
Wall earned second team recognition for the first time in his
career. He posted 55 tackles, including 5.5 tackles for a loss,
three pass breakups and three sacks. Wall notched 12 tackles and
2.5 sacks in the season-ending victory over Case Western.
Luby garnered honorable mention accolades after being named Second
Team All-ODAC last year. He was part of a defense that limited
opposing quarterbacks to just a 51.9 percent completion percentage.
Luby also totaled 47 tackles and tied for the team-lead with five
pass breakups.
Washington and Lee finished the season with a 7-3 overall record
and a 4-2 mark in the ODAC. It was the Generals' first seven-win
season since the 1985 campaign.
