W&L PLACES SIX ON ALL-ODAC FIELD HOCKEY TEAM

SALEM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) announced its all-conference field hockey team on Wednesday afternoon and Washington and Lee had several players honored.

Senior midfielder S.B. Northen (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) and sophomore midfielder Kendall Korte (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) earned first team honors, senior forward Jane Beall (Richmond, Va./James River) and junior defender Rebecca Hatchett (Newport News, Va./Hampton Roads) were named to the second team, while senior midfielder Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del.) and junior defender Kim Babbitt (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) garnered honorable mention recognition. Additionally, freshman Liz Garson (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) was tabbed the Rookie of the Year, senior goalkeeper Courtney Harrison (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Head Coach Wendy Orrison was selected as Coach of the Year.

Northen, the ODAC Tournament MVP, was named to the first team for the second straight season. She tallied five points on two goals and one assist, while helping the Generals' defense to a school-record tying six shutouts. Her four defensive saves tied for the team lead. Northen finished her career with 36 points on 15 goals and six assists.

Korte earned her first career postseason honor after ranking second on the team in scoring with 26 points on eight goals and a school-record 10 assists. She notched a school-record eight points on a school-record four goals in a 7-0 victory over Bridgewater and notched a school-record tying three assists in a 7-1 win over Randolph-Macon.

Beall garnered second team honors after earning honorable mention accolades in each of the previous two seasons. Beall scored both goals in a 2-1 win over Lynchburg in the ODAC Championship Game and finished the season with a school-record tying 38 points on 16 goals and six assists. Her six game-winning goals were also tops on the team. Beall concluded her career as W&L's all-time leader in points (106), goals (42), and assists (22).

Hatchett was named to the second team after earning First Team All-ODAC and First Team All-State honors in 2004. She was a mainstay on a Generals' defense that finished second in the ODAC in scoring defense (1.48 gpg) and tied a school record with six shutouts. Hatchett also tied Northen with a team-high four defensive saves.

Lester garnered honorable mention recognition for the second time in her career after earning honorable mention honors as a freshman. She finished fifth on the team in scoring with 15 points on five goals and five assists. Lester capped her career with 40 points on 13 goals and 15 assists.

Babbitt earned her first career postseason honor after being named to the honorable mention team. She was a key member of a W&L defense that finished second in the ODAC in scoring defense (1.48 gpg) and tied a school record with six shutouts. Babbitt also scored her first career goal in a 9-0 win over Mary Baldwin.

Garson became the first General in program history to be named the ODAC Rookie of the Year. She was a key reason why the W&L defense finished second in the ODAC in scoring defense (1.48 gpg) and tied a school record with six shutouts. Garson also recorded a pair of defensive saves.

Harrison, a neuroscience major, started 20 games and posted a 13-5 record with a 1.60 goals-against average and a .735 save percentage. Harrison is the school's all-time leader in goals-against average (1.74), save percentage (.749), saves (248), and shutouts (12).

Orrison was named the Coach of the Year for the second time in the last four seasons. She also claimed the award following the 2002 season. Orrison led the Generals to a school-record 15 overall wins (15-6), a school-record seven ODAC victories (7-1), to their first-ever ODAC Championship and their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Sweet Briar senior goalkeeper Jenn Wiley was named the ODAC Player of the Year.
