TWO GENERALS NAMED TO ALL-STATE MEN'S SOCCER TEAM
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Washington and Lee seniors Peter Miller (Towson, Md./Baltimore Lutheran) and Brian Pirkle (Lexington, Va./Woodberry Forest) have been named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) College Divison All-State team which was released on Tuesday evening. Both Miller and Pirkle were second team selections.
A defender, Miller was named to the second team after garnering first team recognition last season. A starter in all 16 games in 2004, Miller totaled seven points on one goal and five assists. He also captained the defensive unit which posted four shutouts and allowed an average of just 1.48 goals per game. A two-time First Team All-ODAC selection, Miller finished his career with three goals and seven assists.
A midfielder, Pirkle earned all-state honors for the first time in 2004. He started all 16 games, totaling team-highs in points (17), goals (6) and assists (5). A First Team All-ODAC and Third Team All-South selection this season, Pirkle completed his career ranked in the Top 10 all-time at W&L in goals (23), assists (14) and points (60).
Washington and Lee finished the 2004 season with a 6-7-3 overall record, 3-3-3 in the ODAC. The season ended with a 3-0 loss to Guilford in the ODAC Tournament.
