W&L FOOTBALL PICKED FIFTH IN ODAC PRESEASON POLL

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- At the annual Old Dominion Athletic Conference football media day held Friday, July 25, on the campus of Hampden-Sydney College, the conference's preseason poll was announced.

Washington and Lee was picked to finish fifth overall of the league's seven football playing institutions in voting conducted by the conference's coaches.

Bridgewater received the most first place votes and are the favorite to win the conference title for a third straight season.

Hampden-Sydney was picked to finish second followed by Randolph-Macon, Emory & Henry, Washington and Lee, Guilford and Catholic.

W&L went 5-5 overall last season and finished in a tie for third place with Randolph-Macon, sporting a 3-3 conference mark.

The Generals return 15 starters to the fold in 2003, eight on offense and seven on defense. However, W&L must replace tailback Chris Sullivan who graduated after setting school records in career rushing yards and career all-purpose yards. Senior linebacker Ben Krasnoff (Towson, Md./Towson) returns to lead the defense and is a Preseason Second Team All-America selection by two different preseason publications.

Washington and Lee opens its season on September 13 as it travels to Johns Hopkins for a 12:00 pm contest.
