W&L NAMES CHRIS OSTROWSKY ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACH
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Athletic Director Mike
Walsh has announced the appointment of Chris Ostrowsky as assistant
football coach. Ostrowsky will begin his appointment
immediately.
"We are pleased to have Chris join our football staff as offensive
coordinator," said Walsh. "He brings an excellent coaching
background and a reputation for offensive creativity to our
football program. Chris is a high energy person who will enhance
our football program."
"My family and I are very excited about this opportunity at
Washington and Lee," said Ostrowsky. "I am very enthusiastic about
working with this football program and with the great staff that is
already in place here."
Ostrowsky, who will serve as the offensive coordinator, comes to
W&L from East Side High School in Newark, N.J., where he served
as head football coach for four seasons.
During his time at East Side, Ostrowsky racked up an impressive
resume. Hired as the youngest head coach in the State of New Jersey
(24) in 1997, Ostrowsky became the school's all-time win leader
since the city league was disbanded and led the team to a Top 10
ranking in Essex County during the 1998, 1999 and 2001 seasons. He
was named the Newark Star-Ledger Essex County Coach of the Year
following the 1998 season when he led East Side to its first
playoff appearance in school history.
"Chris has an outstanding background as a high school head coach,"
said W&L Head Coach Frank Miriello. "He took a program that
hadn't seen much success and turned it into a winner. I believe
that his ethusiasm and knowledge of football can greatly benefit
our efforts at Washington and Lee."
Ostrowsky has also held coaching stints as the quarterback coach
at New Jersey City University (1996), as the offensive coordinator
at Seton Hall Prep (1995) and as the quarterbacks and receivers
coach at Hillside High School (1993-94).
A 1993 graduate of Jersey City State College with a degree in
history, Ostrowsky was a two-year member of the football team as a
quarterback after earning all-conference, all-county and all-state
honors at Roselle Park High School.
