SULLIVAN EARNS VERIZON ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORS
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee junior track athlete Chris
Sullivan (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) was one of 10 athletes
selected to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District III College
Division Track and Cross Country Team on Thursday afternoon. The
team was voted on by members of the Collegiate Sports Information
Directors of America.
Sullivan earned a spot on the squad after carrying a 3.59 grade
point average as a computer science major. In addition, Sullivan
won the long jump title at the ODAC Championships with a
season-best leap of 21'-11.25''. He also tallied a second place
finish in the 100 meter dash (11.20), a fifth place finish in the
200 meter dash (23.55) and a seventh place finish in the javelin at
the championships.
This past fall, Sullivan earned his second consecutive selection
to the Verizon College Division Academic All-District Football Team
after he helped lead the W&L football team to a 5-5 record.
Sullivan, who led all of Division III with 2,024 all-purpose yards
(202.4 ypg), rushed for 1,189 yards and eight touchdowns on a
school-record 253 carries, caught 27 passes for 268 yards and
another touchdown, returned 19 punts for 204 yards and returned 13
kicks for 347 yards and one touchdown. Following his season on the
gridiron, Sullivan was named First Team All-ODAC , First Team
All-State (Roanoke Times and Virginia SID's), Third Team All-South
Region and Third Team Associated Press Little All-America.
The District III team is composed of 10 members from throughout
the southeastern United States. With his selection to the Academic
All-District Team, Sullivan is automatically entered into
consideration for Academic All-American status.
