BIDWELL AND MARCOUX NAMED ALL-SOUTH
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee placed two players on the
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South
Women's Soccer Team announced recently.
Senior midfielder Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./Escambia) and
sophomore forward Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C./The Potomac
School) both earned Second Team accolades.
Bidwell was selected to the second team for the first time in her
career after scoring a team-high 10 goals and dishing out four
assists for 24 points. For her career, Bidwell notched 33 goals and
13 assists for 79 points. Her 33 goals are tied for fourth all-time
at W&L, while her 79 points rank fourth all-time.
Bidwell is a four-time All-ODAC First Team selection and a
three-time All-South Region Third Team selection.
Marcoux earned a spot on the squad after tallying 24 points on six
goals and a W&L-record 12 assists. In just two seasons, Marcoux
has tallied 20 goals and 21 assists for 61 points. Her 21 assists
rank second all-time at W&L, while her 61 points are fifth
all-time. Marcoux, who was a First Team All-State selection in 2000
and an honorable mention pick as a sophomore, has been an All-ODAC
First Team honoree in each of her first two seasons.
Washington and Lee finished the 2001 season with an 11-4-1 overall
record. The Generals advanced to the ODAC Tournament Semifinals
before falling to Roanoke, 1-1 (4-2), on penalty kicks.
