LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior attackman Matt Dugan (Rockaway, N.J./Mountain Lakes) has been named the Warrior/Inside Lacrosse Division III National Player of the Week.
Dugan earned the honor after totaling two goals and three assists in the Generals' 24-1 win over Guilford on Saturday afternoon. In the process, Dugan became the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's career scoring leader with 270 points (170 g, 100 a). He eclipsed the former record of 267 points held by Paul Tomick and Frank Smollen, both of Randolph-Macon.
Dugan also holds the W&L record for career points, breaking the record of 234 points in the first game of the season against Elmira. He is within reach of the W&L and ODAC career goals records as well, needing 11 more goals to break the school record and 21 more to surpass the ODAC mark.
This season Dugan has tallied 26 goals and 17 assists for a team-high 43 points. Washington and Lee is 10-0 overall, 3-0 in the ODAC, and is ranked No. 1 in the latest USILA Division III lacrosse poll.
