WINCHESTER, Va. -- Two Washington and Lee student-athletes were recently honored as selections to the GTE Academic All-District III Spring At-Large Second-Team. Seniors Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) and Jill Kosch (Columbus, Neb./Scotus) earned spots on the team after stellar spring seasons both on the playing field and in the classroom.
Jernigan, a three-year starter at goalkeeper for the Generals' women's lacrosse team, will graduate in June ranking second on the W&L all-time saves list (505). This season, she was second in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in both goals-against average (7.73) and save percentage (.595). In addition to her athletic exploits, Jernigan carries a 3.61 GPA with a double-major in physics and math.
Kosch capped a tremendous senior season on the track squad by breaking the Washington and Lee school-record in the 200-meter dash (27.11) at the ODAC Championships on April 22. In addition, she is a member of both the school-record holding 400- (51.81) and 1,600-meter (4:11.13) relay teams. Kosch will also graduate in June and currently holds a 3.85 GPA while majoring in print journalism.
