Three W&L Soccer Players Receive Postseason Recognition
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior defender Shana Levine (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) was recently named to the VASID All-State women's soccer first team. Sophomore midfielder Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./Escambia) earned honorable mention status. Senior defender Ben Thompson (Bozman, Md./Newark) also recieved recognition for his outstanding season by being chosen to the NSCAA All-South third team.
Levine, a tri-captain for the Generals, tallied five goals and one assist from her fullback position. She was one of three defenders chosen to the first team. For her career, she has tallied 14 goals and five assists. Levine was also recently tabbed as a first team All-ODAC defender.
Bidwell, who earned first team All-State honors as a freshman, ranked second on W&L's squad in scoring, posting six goals and two assists. Her totals become even more impressive when taking into account the preseason injury that hobbled her during the early part of the year. An All-ODAC selection during each of the past two seasons, Bidwell has tallied 15 goals and five assists in her W&L career.
Thompson, the starting sweeper and a tri-captain for the men's squad, rounded out his career with his first-ever selection to the All-South Region team. His biggest impact came on the defensive side of the field where his leadership and support helped the defense hold its opponents to an average of 1.49 goals per game, compared to the 2.01 goals per game posted by the General offense. Thompson was one of two Generals named to the All-ODAC men's soccer first team.
