LEXINGTON, Va. - The honors for the 1998 ODAC regular season champion Washington and Lee women's soccer team continued to roll in on Wednesday as three Generals were named to the Virginia Sports Information Director's All-State team.
Senior forward and co-captain Karin Treese (Frederick, Md./ Thomas Johnson) has been named all-state first team for the second consecutive season. She ends her career at W&L as the program's all-time leading scorer in goals (72) and total points (167). In 1998, she led the ODAC in goals per game (1.21) and total points per game (2.79). She also led the Generals in game-winning goals with five.
Freshman midfielder Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./ Escambia) was one of only two freshmen to make the state's first team. She placed third on the W&L scoring list with nine goals and 21 total points. Bidwell scored both goals in a 2-1 win at Lynchburg, handing the Hornets their only regular season conference loss.
Senior back and co-captain Nicole Johnson (Cream Ridge, N.J./ Notre Dame) has been named to state's first team for the first time. Last season, Johnson was named to the state's honorable mention team. Johnson anchored a defense that allowed only 10 goals in 14 games, including eight shutouts in 1998.
All three players were named to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's first team. Treese and Johnson were both named to the south region's third team.
