SIX GENERALS NAMED TO ALL-ODAC WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM
Lexington, Va. -- Washington and Lee's Old Dominion Atheltic Conferece regular season champion women's soccer team was honored, when six Generals were named to the all-ODAC team on Wednesday. W&L boasted three first-teamers and three second-teamers.
Senior forward and co-captain Karin Treese (Frederick, Md./ Thomas Johnson) was named all-ODAC for the fourth time in her career and to the first team for the third time. She ends her career at W&L as the program's all-time leading scorer in goals (72) and total points (167). In 1998, she led the ODAC in goals per game (1.21) and total points per game (2.79). She also led the Generals in game-winning goals with five.
Freshman midfielder Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./ Escambia) was the only conference freshman to make the first team. She placed third on the W&L scoring list with nine goals and 21 total points. Bidwell scored both goals in a 2-1 win at Lynchburg, handing the Hornets their only regular season conference loss.
Senior back and co-captain Nicole Johnson (Cream Ridge, N.J./ Notre Dame) has been named all-ODAC for the third time and first team for the second time. Johnson anchored a defense that allowed only 10 goals in 14 games, including eight shutouts in 1998.
Junior forward Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./ Dr. Phillips) was a second team all-ODAC selection. She was second on the team to Treese in both goals (11) and total points (28) ion 1998. Jernigan finished third in the conference in goals per game (0.85) and total points per game (2.15).
Sophomore midfielder Shana Levine (Hudson, Ohio/ Hudson) was also named to the second team for the first time. She scored five goals and 11 total points for the Generals in 1998, including two game-winning goals.
Another sophomore midfielder making her first appearance on the all-ODAC second team was Margaret-Hunter Turner (Roanoke, Va./ Patrick Henry). Turner scored four goals and two assists in 1998, including a goal in the ODAC Tournament against Roanoke.
