FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has announced that three Washington and Lee student-athletes have been selected as the conference’s Player of the Week for the week ending October 27.
Senior linebacker Peter Partee (Richmond, Va. / St. Christopher’s) has been named the Football Defensive Player of the Week, senior setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va. / Mills Godwin) has been selected the Volleyball Player of the Week and junior forward Zach Colby (Prairie Village, Kan. / Shawnee Mission East) has been tabbed the Men’s Soccer Player of the Week.
Partee helped the Generals claim a 42-13 win over Bridgewater on Saturday by totaling six tackles (five solo), two interceptions and one pass breakup. As a team, Washington and Lee intercepted five Eagles passes including one that was returned for a score.
For the season, Partee ranks second on the team in tackles with 43 total stops. He also has a half sack and two interceptions.
Meleski helped lead W&L to a 4-0 week that included a 3-1 victory over Christopher Newport on Saturday. For the week, she recorded 129 assists (9.21 a/s), 39 digs (2.79 d/s), 11 kills (.455 hitting percentage), nine total blocks and three service aces.
At CNU, Meleski set a career-high with 55 assists (13.75 a/s) and added 12 digs and three blocks. She also tied a career-high with six kills on only eight attempts in a 3-0 sweep of York (Pa.) earlier on Saturday. On the year, she is leading the ODAC in assists per set (9.66) and is second is service aces per set (0.53).
Colby scored three goals in helping lead the Generals to a 2-0 week with wins over Emory & Henry (4-0) and Guilford (2-1). In the 4-0 victory over E&H, Colby notched his 11th goal of the season after he capitalized on a penalty kick. The goal was the 24th of his career, which moved him into the Top 10 on the school’s career goals list.
Against the Quakers, Colby led the offensive attack by scoring both goals, which moved him into eighth-place for career goals (26).
For the season, Colby leads the team with 27 points on 13 goals and one assist. His goal and points totals also rank second in the ODAC.
W&L football (4-3, 2-2) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Catholic for a 1:00 pm contest. The volleyball team (24-6, 9-1) also plays on Saturday when it travels to Emory & Henry for an 11:00 am match, and the men’s soccer team (9-1-5, 7-1-2) travels to Randolph for a 7:00 pm match on Tuesday.
