LEXINGTON, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has announced that two Washington and Lee student-athletes have been selected as the conference’s Player of the Week for the week ending January 27.
Senior Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C. / Athens Drive) earned the award for women’s swimming, while first-year Dana Lee (Nashville, Tenn. / St. Cecilia Academy) garnered the honor for women’s track and field.
Hardy helped lead the Generals to a 133-64 win over VMI and a 134-62 victory over Ferrum on Saturday. She won two individual events and swam as a member of a winning relay. Hardy swept the short freestyle events, taking first place in the 50 free (25.55) and the 100 free (55.57). She also teamed up with sophomores Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) and Sarah Schaffer (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton Warrenville South), along with junior Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) to post a winning time of 1:52.13 in the 200 medley relay.
Lee broke the W&L long jump record on Saturday at the Marietta Open. She won the event with a jump of 5.63m (18'05.75"). It broke Stacy Doornbos’ record of 5.48m (18'00.00") set in 2009. Lee's mark is also the second-best jump in Division III so far this year. Also at Marietta, she finished second in the 200m with a time of 27.34 and placed third in the triple jump at 10.38m (34'00.75").
The W&L women's track & field team returns to action this weekend as it competes at the Bison Open in Lewisburg, Pa. on Friday, while women’s swimming next competes in the ODAC Championships in Greensboro, N.C., February 7 thru February 9.
