Mike Pressler was one of Washington and Lee’s top two-sport athletes in late 1970’s and early 1980’s. A four-year starter for both the football and lacrosse teams, Pressler served as team captain in both sports during his senior year.
As a defensive lineman on the football team, Pressler earned Kodak First Team All-America honors as a senior when he helped lead the Generals to the 1981 ODAC Championship. A two-time First Team All-ODAC selection, Pressler totaled 362 career tackles, fifth all-time at W&L. He twice led the team in tackles and finished no lower than second on the team in tackles the other two seasons. He also amassed 53 tackles for a loss, eight fumble recoveries and two interceptions.
In lacrosse, Pressler started each of his first three years on attack, scoring 59 points on 22 goals and 37 assists. As a senior, he moved to defense helping lead the Generals to a 9-4 overall record, their last winning season in Division I.
In the years following his graduation from W&L, Pressler pursued coaching lacrosse at the collegiate level, serving as an assistant at Army and as the head coach at VMI, Ohio Wesleyan and Duke. He was also selected to serve as one of three assistant coaches for the U.S. National Lacrosse team.
