SALEM, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has announced that Washington and Lee University has claimed the 2010 Dan Wooldridge Overall Sports Champion Cup for the seventh-straight year.
The cup, sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance, is presented to the school that exhibits the best all-around athletic program in the conference. Points for the Commissioner's Cups are based on regular season standings in team sports and championship team finishes in individual sports. Each institution has a total number of possible points they can collect based on their individual sport sponsorship. The total number of points earned is then divided by the total number of possible points in order to come up with a ranking for each institution.
The Generals accumulated 132.0 points of a possible 187.0 for a 0.706 rating in claiming the trophy for the 14th time in the 16 years that it has been awarded. Lynchburg College collected 128.5 points of 183.0 for a 0.702 rating to finish in second place.
Washington and Lee also claimed the women’s sport trophy for the seventh year in a row with a 0.85 rating, having tallied 83.0 of a possible 98.0 points. Roanoke College finished second in the race for the women’s cup with a 0.77 rating.
The Generals finished sixth overall in the race for the men’s sport trophy, totaling a 0.55 rating. Lynchburg College claimed the men’s cup with a 0.73 rating.
Washington and Lee finished the 2009-2010 season with a 181-118-7 (.603) overall record and took home ODAC Championships in women’s soccer, women’s basketball, women’s swimming, women’s lacrosse, men’s tennis and women’s tennis.
