LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced the appointment of Emily FitzHugh as assistant athletic trainer. FitzHugh will begin her appointment immediately.
"We are pleased to have Emily FitzHugh join our athletic training staff," said Hathorn. "She has an excellent record of caring for student-athletes and we are looking forward to working with her."
"I'm excited to welcome Emily to Washington and Lee and the athletic training staff," said Head Athletic Trainer Josh Williamson. "She is a nice addition to our staff and I'm sure she will do an excellent job."
FitzHugh comes to W&L after serving as an intern athletic trainer at the College of Charleston for the 2007-08 school year. In this role, she worked primarily with the men's soccer, baseball and women's tennis teams and helped supervise undergraduate athletic training students as a clinical instructor.
"I am so pleased to have the opportunity to join the athletic training staff at Washington and Lee," said FitzHugh. "The school has such a great national reputation and I am eager to begin working with a great group of student-athletes."
FitzHugh also served as an athletic training student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she earned a master of science degree in Exercise and Sport Science in 2007. FitzHigh worked with UNCG's men's soccer, men's basketball, volleyball and softball teams and she served as the lead athletic training student for the Northwest Guilford High School football team.
FitzHugh is a 2004 graduate of Duke University, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology. She is an NATA-BOC certified athletic trainer and is certified in first aid and CPR by the American Red Cross. She is also a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association.
