LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced the appointment of Nate Jervey as assistant sports information director.
"I am pleased to offer this position to Nate Jervey and I am excited to welcome him to our department and our campus community," said Hathorn. "He has a solid background in Division III athletics, as well as in the daily operations of sports information. He will be a wonderful asset to our staff."
Jervey comes to W&L from the University of Detroit Mercy, where he served as a sports information assistant for the 2007-08 school year. At Detroit, Jervey was the primary media contact for softball, women's soccer, men's and women's cross country and men's and women's fencing. He also assisted with the hosting of the 2008 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Midwest Regional at Ford Field.
"Washington and Lee is an excellent institution and I am very much looking forward to returning to Division III athletics," said Jervey. "I can't thank the University enough for this opportunity."
Jervey is a 2007 graduate of Alma College, where he graduated with bachelor of arts degrees in political science and history and participated on the football and basketball teams. He also served as a member of the sports information student staff for three years. On the gridiron, Jervey helped the Scots to a pair of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association titles and was a Second Team All-MIAA selection at wide receiver as a senior.
"I'm excited about Nate joining the sports information staff," said W&L Sports Information Director Brian Laubscher. "He has a good knowledge of the sports information profession and an enthusiasm for Division III athletics. I believe that his zest for the position will benefit W&L greatly."
Jervey will serve as the primary media contact for several of W&L's athletic teams and will be reponsible for recording statistics, producing news releases and media guides and updating the University athletics webpages.
