W&L's Keigler Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee junior lacrosse player Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman) has been selected to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-District III At-Large squad as a first team selection.

Keigler was among 10 athletes selected to the team from a grouping of 25 different sports among small colleges in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. The criteria for the CoSIDA Academic All-District program states that a player must be of sophomore academic standing, be a starter or important reserve, and claim a GPA of at least a 3.30 on a 4.0 scale.

Keigler will now go on the national ballot where he could earn Academic All-America honors.

A First Team All-ODAC and Honorable Mention All-America selection this spring, Keigler started all 20 games on attack and led the team in scoring with 78 points on 42 goals and 36 assists. His 78 points are tied for the fifth-highest season total in school history.

A three-year starter, Keigler will enter his senior season tied for 16th all-time at W&L with 149 career points (73 G, 76 A). His 76 career assists also rank 11th in school history.

Washington and Lee finished the 2009 season with a 16-4 overall record and a 4-2 ODAC mark. The Generals tied the school record for wins in a season and won their first ODAC title since the 2004 season by defeating top-ranked Roanoke in the ODAC title game, 15-14 in overtime. W&L won its first round NCAA Tournament game over FDU-Florham, 6-5 in overtime, before falling to Gettysburg, 15-10.
